Do You Remove Ear Wax Regularly - Medineeds Ear Care Top Tips

Date: Mar 23, 2022
Post By : admin

At Medineeds Health and Wellness Clinic we are often asked for top tips on how our patients can look after their ears, as it is really important to make sure that everyone takes care with their ears.
We understand that often people don’t know what ear care routine they should be following at home, what ear care do’s and don’ts there are, or when it is necessary to call on expert ear care advice and support.

So, what is the best advice for looking after our ears?

Here are the Ear Care Top Tips from our Medineeds Ear Care Specialist Jeannette Street:

  • Do not use cotton buds in your ears. Ever.
  • Treat hard wax that is blocking your ear canal with a wax softener such as olive oil. This will help the wax move out of the ear naturally.

  • Keep your ears dry after swimming, bathing or showering. If you do get water in your ears, tilt your head to allow the water to drain out, then towel dry gently.

  • Do not ignore ear problems like pain, itchiness, discharge (smelly or otherwise), hearing reduction, any noises you hear like ringing or buzzing that is not caused by an outside source (tinnitus), dizziness. The longer you leave these untreated, the harder they can become to treat.

  • The following are not recommended for wax removal - Pen lids, keys, hairgrips, corkscrews, fingernails, paperclips, arm of your spectacles, corner of a hanky twisted round etc. Be very cautious about any type of wax removal product that you stick in your ears, because you may have an underlying condition that needs examining properly by a specialist.
