What is Reflexology and Its Benefits?

Date: Sep 20, 2022
Post By : Medineeds

At Medineeds we have a full circle approach to your health and wellness and believe overall wellness is crucial to protect against the onset of health issues.

We are often asked how our patients can look after their overall wellbeing, ways to ease stress and anxiety, manage pain, support rehabilitation and focus on whole person wellness.

Our Reflexology sessions have been designed to help you relax and cope with stress and anxiety, lift your mood and give you a feeling of wellbeing. Read along to understand what is Reflexology and its benefits:

So, What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which uses non-invasive techniques that applies gentle pressure to your feet or hands. It aims to bring about a state of relaxation and help the body's own healing process. Reflexology works in a similar way to acupressure and acupuncture.

Reflexologists believe there are certain points on the feet and hands. These points correspond to the body's glands and organs. By pressing and applying special massaging points the reflexologist hopes to have an effect on the energy pathways, organs and systems they represent.

If any energy pathways are blocked, reflexology aims to unblock them. Allowing the energy to flow freely again, restoring balance to the body, improving overall wellness and reducing stress levels.

What are the Benefits of a Reflexology Session at Medineeds:

  • Relax and cope with stress and anxiety

  • Relieve pain

  • Lift your mood and give a feeling of well being

  • Stimulate circulation and the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells

Medineeds Reflexology Sessions – Provided by Local Healthcare Experts:

At Medineeds Health & Wellness, Taunton, Reflexology sessions are provided by HCPC registered Principal Podiatrist, Sarah Clauson.

Sarah is registered with the Royal College of Podiatry, Health Care Professions Council and has over 11 years of NHS experience, and is a specialist in rheumatology, diabetic foot and wound care and has a keen interest in complementary therapies.

On your first visit, Sarah will ask you questions about your health, lifestyle, and medical history as well as assess the blood supply and feeling in your feet. A Reflexology session usually lasts between 45 to 60 minutes. Depending on how you feel you can sit up or fully recline during your treatment.

After a Reflexology session, most people find that they come away feeling sleepy and relaxed. Some people find they need to visit the toilet a little more or feel a little tearful in the hours following treatment, as the body releases things it may have been keeping in previously due to the relaxation. Rarely, some people may find their problem gets a little worse before getting better, or feel like a slight cold is coming on, if you stay hydrated, this normally goes away in 24 to 48 hours..
