Praana is the Sanskrit word for the cosmic energy that is the essence of our existence. It is the vitality within us supporting wellbeing. At Medineeds our full circle approach focuses equally on your wellbeing as well as your health.

What is Pilates?

Pilates “Is the complete coordination of body, mind and spirit”. Pilates uses a series of exercises to engage muscle function with mind function, to develop a strong, healthy, body and mind.
Pilates is founded on 6 fundamental principles of exercise:

  • Breathing
  • Centering
  • Concentration
  • Control
  • Flow
  • Precision

What are the Benefits of Pilates?

The benefits of Pilates are wide-ranging:

  • Regular Pilates can improve your health, fitness, posture, balance, muscle tone and joint mobility, which in turn can aid with motivation and alleviate depression.
  • Improve movement, speed, strength, control and power to aid in any sport or athletic ability.
  • Teaches core strength which can help to alleviate back pain.
  • Works with a regular breathing pattern which can aid in stress relief and help as a relaxation technique.
  • Aid with weight loss if practiced alongside aerobic activities and a healthy, well-balanced diet.
  • Muscle strengthening which can assist in maintaining a healthy weight.

Who is Pilates for?

Pilates is suitable for all ages, genders and all levels of ability and fitness. All exercises can be tailored to suit an individual's needs.

Pilates Group Classes:

There are separate classes for:

  • All abilities Mat Pilates

  • Postnatal, Mum and Baby Pilates

  • Antenatal Pilates

  • Over 60’s Pilates

All classes run for 1 hour, we will begin with a postural set up, then a warm up to mobilise your joints, some balance work, standing cardio workout with weights, mat exercises aimed to strengthen your core, muscles, legs, upper body and glutes for a total body conditioning workout.  The class will end with a cool down, deep breathing and stretching.

Classes are kept to a maximum of 12 clients to ensure that you can benefit from help and correction if needed. 

Classes are held in our Praana Wellness Studio at no.2 Bridge Street. 

Please bring a mat, a set of small hand-held weights and a resistance band if you have these items. 

We practice Pilates in socks or barefoot and wear loose, comfortable exercise clothing.  Please bring a water bottle to keep hydrated. 

Classes run in blocks of 6 weeks.

What to Expect During a Pilates 1:1 Session?

For the initial session our Pilates instructor will complete a health questionnaire with you and talk about what you wish to gain from the session and possible subsequent sessions.

The first session will include teaching you how to set up your posture and core, warm up and mobilise your joints and spine, work on your balance, a short cardio work out with weights, and then move down to the mat for floor exercises.

Pilates mat training is a body-weight, total body conditioning program with a long list of core- centered exercises, sequenced together to elevate your mind, body, spirit and athletic ability.

The session will finish with stretching and a cool down.

For clients wishing to book further sessions our Pilates Instructor will develop a tailored program to suit your needs, which you will continue to work through at follow up sessions.

All necessary equipment for the session will be provided by Medineeds Health & Wellness Studio.

Alternative Pilates Sessions

Postnatal Mum & Baby Sessions:  Postnatal sessions will follow a similar set up as the session described. The session will start with a diastasis recti check and teach you to check this regularly. Adaptions to exercises will be made after the initial session, depending on the status of diastasis recti and time since the birth.

Antenatal Sessions: Antenatal sessions will follow a similar set up as the session described. More detailed notes will be taken on the health questionnaire and regular monitoring of changes will be recorded. Adaptions will be made as the client progresses through the trimesters.

Mat Pilates : Pilates Mat Training is a body-weight, total body conditioning program with a long list of core-centered excercises, sequenced together to elevate your mind, body, spiit and athletic ability.

What is Personal Training?

Our certified Personal Trainers have the knowledge and skills to design a safe and effective excercise program to suit each individual client and help you to achieve your health and fitness goals. Goals could range from muscle gain, fat loss, cardio strength and training, sports performance improvement and rehabilitation after injury. Personal Training provides guidance, support and motivation to help achieve your goals and create a long term balanced lifestyle.

The Benefits of Personal Training

  • Gain Knowledge and experience from your Personal Trainer guiding you to the best training methods for you because one size does not fit all in fitness.
  • Be fully supported to challenge and motivate yourself in order to achieve your best potential.
  • Be guided on how to perform excercises safely and correctly, targeting the right muscles, keeping good form and preventing injuries.
  • Being held accountable by your Personal Trainer means that you keep focused on your health and fitness journey.
  • You will have tailored program to suit your needs, goals and abilities. A program which is challenging, but achievable and can be adjusted as needed.

Personal Training Sessions

At the initial 30 minute session our Personal Trainer will chat with you to get to know you and to get an understanding of your current health and fitness goals. They will complete a health form, take your blood pressure reading, height and weight to calculate your BMI and from there duscuss tailored sessions to make your goals achievable. If you would like to book in for PT sessions, they will put together a sequence of excercises whch can be adjusted as needed at each session.

We encourage you to book a block of 5 sessions in order to gain consistency and build up momentum to start to achieve you goals.

What is Yoga & Meditation?

Yoga & Meditation is a holistic and mindful practice that includes physical movements (asana) and breathing (pranayama).

What is Restorative Yin Yoga?

Restorative Yin Yoga is a deeply relaxing and restorative style of yoga that focuses on longer holds of gentle poses. The goal of restorative yin is to calm the nervous system, allow the body to completely relax and release tension, and promote healing.

The sustainable gentle poses allow connective tissues like tendons and fascia to safely stretch and relax. The long hold times also give the nervous system a chance to calm down from its habitual state of fight- -to-flight. This makes restorative yin an excellent way to manage stress.

What to Expect in Class?

A Restorative Yin class is a very quiet, meditative practice. Most poses are done on the floor supported by a variety of props like blankets, bolsters and blocks to ensure maximum comfort.

Every class starts with pranayama, which is the yoga practice of controlling the breath through different techniques. You will then be guided through different poses, which you can expect to hold for 3-5 minutes. At the end of each session, there will be a guided meditation followed by spending time in a final resting pose.

The overall pace is extremely slow and gentle, allowing you to turn inward and focus on your breath while body realeases tension.

After class expect to feel deeply relaxed yet invigorated. The effects of restorative yin are both physically and mentally calming and you should feel a sense of peace after your session.

Who is Yoga for?

Yoga is for everyone. No matter your age, fitness level, or background, there is a form of yoga suitable for you.

Restorative Yin Yoga sessions are led by Mrs. Amani Leslie Msc, a qualified education professional and 200 hours registered yoga teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance.

Amani combines her in-depth knowlwdge of biological sciences with her Master's Degree in Education and her love for yoga to bring you a deeply informed and holistic practice that benefits mind and body.
